Default Tragic loss of a child. These folks need your prayers.

One week ago, a local varsity football player was injured during a helmet to helmet hit during an away game. Damon Janes, 16 of Brocton NY passed away on Monday at Women's and Children's Hospital oin Buffalo NY from his injuries. Hei is from a town 30 minutes from where I currently live, and I have been friends with his father for close to 20 years. This has affected all of Chautauqua County deeply, and is a lot for his parents to bear. Plesae pray for them

Very saddened by this. I have been at the forefront of covering injury related stories for most of my sports media career. Last year i did an interview with Earl Campbell, who is the same age as me, and needs to use a walker to get around because he has no more Support tension in his knees.

Thank you guys. had a double whammy as it turns out this week. A close friend of the family passed on Thursday, kind of an aunt to my wife, and an old customer at my mom's shop. Her kids and my wife's siblings used to go camping together when they were younger, and I used to go hunting with her son. She will be missed, but we know she is in a better place.

thank you from all of us in the Fox and Janes families.

Dr. Football. I myself am a sports injury statistic. When I was 15, I had the honor of being bumped up to the varsity football team at Swansboro high school. During the third game of the season (my first and last season IIRC), I was hit in the back of the lower left leg by one player, and hit in the upper thigh by another. Tore the cr@p out of my left knee to say the least. Between that and a car accident my senior year, I was told I would never ride a motorcycle, drive a stick shift, or roller skate again. The doctor was right for about 18 months, at which point I proved him wrong. Anyway, my left leg is now close to an inch shorter than my right leg, on top of the transtarsal amputation that was performed when I was 30. I still walk with a limp, but all except for the skating, I still do most of what I used to, but I know that old injuries have lasting affects. I have seen how bad things can be, and i count myself as lucky. I could, and should be in much worse shape than I am.

I feel your pain, Brother. My service injury forced me into teaching and coaching, and writing(as well as out of a combat flight unit and into the Army reserves). Couldn't exactly walk on at Syracuse with pins in your leg, esp. Not as a kicker!

Mom had type 1 since age 9, dad and i were diagnosed a month apart. He was 41, and I was 15. Both of us are type 1, he is on the pump, I still use the needle and vial. He was diagnosed about 3 months after he retired from the Corps.
