One of the things about the PNW is that it is always, seemingly, wet. And one of the things I learned from a former 'teams buddy is that running, or murky, water is a GREAT place to hide things.

Baja Bags by SEAL LINE are awesome and come in a varity of sizes. This one was the largest size that was available when I bought a couple.

The idea behind it is that you can put all sorts of stuff inside, seal it up nice and water tight, then you can submerge gear in a river or just offshore, as a worse case, or just plain keep some valuable stuff around camp dry ( light fire starting gear and some socks )

The bags roll up pretty small, are a very durable type of vinyl/plastic and work really well once they are properly sealed.

Last but not least, here is a little trick I learned from a guy I know.

If you are in camp and need light for reading or what have you, grab yourself a can of soda and open it like so.

On the bottom of the inside of the can, between the flaps, place a small candle.

Fold the tab up on the top and suspend the can with some string or paracord or what have you.

As the wind blows, the fins keep the can stable and the light from going out. It will swing, but the fins will not allow the wind to blow the candle out, which is quite nice.

You KNOW you want to give this a try tonight.....

Now this is some valuable stuff.

I had never considered hiding stuff in water. Nice.

I've got the standard magnesium block/flint firestarter, never let me down yet.

I keep at least one rat trap, P.M. me, and if I determine you aren't psycho or a ninja, I'll tell you why.

Does anyone have anything better than 550/paracord?

Benning, you mentioned a flash light....I give you an inexpensive yet durable LED light worth 110 lumens.

Walmart.com: Coleman Cree XLamp XR-E LED Flashlight, 2 "AA": Camping

I've got one in my hunting bag with a red and blue light as well, 60 hour running time with the red light. Best of all it uses AAA batteries which can be found anywhere.

JD, great posts! Lots of good information there.

I do believe that I have something that might interest you. Let me acquire some more and I will ship you out a little test package to see what you think. My Friend.
