ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry is asking residents to turn their thermostats down to help the state curb its current natural gas shortage.
Berry is asking residents to turn their thermostats down 10 degrees and wear heavier clothing to ease the states gas problems.
Around 7 a.m. Thursday, the city of Albuquerque was notified of statewide gas pressure issues, Berry said. The gas company said there was a potential to have 10,000-20,000 homes without gas because of the pressure issues.
Several other communities such as Bernalillo, Taos, Red River, Questa, Truth or Consequences, and Silver City have experienced gas outages already.
If you feel like you are in danger because of a lack of gas in the Albuquerque area, the mayor said to call 311.
Seriously, it appears most of our Natural Gas comes from Texas?
Local discussion forum:
Anyways most homes in Texas are heated by electricity. Huge electricity usage caused spike and the cold cause some coal plants to go off line. This created rolling blackout. They fired up some natural gas plants but some of the gas pumps were without electricity so they couldn't get gas to the plants to make the electricity to pump the gas...
Additionally 3 large basins of natural gas where frozen in Texas. And of course natural gas demand went up because of the cold. Electricity was not enough to run the compressors, not sure?
All this equals mass shortages/delivery problems. At least this is the explanation for the power outages in Texas and the shortages of gas in South East NM.
I was on Kirtlans AFB at the gym, no gas on base, more towards conserve, keep the demand down!
No shortages here. Got 2 wells. Natural gas shortages should never happen in the US...EVER! Damn gubmit curbing drilling for oil and gas. We could be off foreign oil and gas in just a few years if drilling would be opened up. It is criminal what the gubmit is doing with the drilling restrictions!
