I don't think NASA really knew anything about where it would land. I think it was supposed to crash within a 28 hour period somewhere between northern Canada and southern Argentina. Also, NASA said if you find it, DO NOT TOUCH IT. (Which telling us not to touch something makes us want to touch it even more.)
