I hate it. I've heard people equate being robbed as feeling just as violated as being raped. I believe it. I still can't be at peace when I'm away from home, always worried that someone of rummaging through my life.

Hate that you got robbed, yet it could have been worse, your family could have been home and injured or worse.

I keep the safe open while at home and locked just before we leave. I had my front door kicked in once, they found a 70# Doberman Pincer staring them in the eye with her ears laid back and showing all of her teeth. Nothing missing but the door, the dog got a steak that night and we got a steel door for every door on the house. The people we bought the house from are the ones who tried to break in as a neighbor saw them coming out of the driveway.

Have you considered a security system or even a couple of security cameras in the house ?

Take pictures of all your valuablesfor insurance reasons. Guns can be traced pretty easily.

If it is as small a town as you say the local merchants will notice the kid who is suddenly "candy rich."

Was the house broken into or left unlocked?

The house was unlocked, I think they walked up because nothing taken bigger than they cold put in their pockets. A neighbor girl said she saw a neighbor from a few houses down watching our house from the alley corner. I have been going to a some pawn shops and asking for a specific ring that was taken to see who has one available. Most places wait 7-10 days to clear police reports. I know the police have been patrolling heavily in the area. The officer was very friendly and we talked for over 2 hrs about football and our teen kids.
