Default My duty section in Iraq getting attacked by Mortars

Here's a video that has been on YouTube for awhile now. My good friend took it. Him and I were deployed to Balad AB, Iraq (also known as Camp Anaconda).

One night when one of the many USAF C5 Galaxies were taxiing in, The insurgents decided to throw some 80mm mortars at us. This video is one of or C-RAM phalanx cannons shooting down a couple of mortars. Look closely in the stream of tracers, and you'll see the small explosions as the mortars are hit.

The main voice in the camera is my good friend. I was in the building right below were the defense gun fired (I'm glad it did). You can't really see the building, but you can see the lights.

Keep your head down and your finger on the trigger brother. Good luck and god speed.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not there in Iraq right now. This was back in Sept 2006. I was there from Sept 2006 through Jan 2007.

Thanks, though.

How was it over there? I'm waiting on a waiver for the Indiana National Guard, recruiter told me straight up that I would go to Iraq within a year of enlisting. I saw a show on military channel in which a soldier said it's hot enough you can drink up to 8 liters of water a day and not piss once. Are you one patrol a lot of is there a lot of free time. My cousin went to Bosnia and he said they played a lot of Playstation while in country.

Start working out now. You need to be in top physical shape at all times.

The average temp for the most part was around 120 degrees with a ground radiant temp of sometimes 140 degrees (body armor makes it almost unbearable).

You will drink lots of water and sports drinks...lol.

If you are going Army, there is a 90% chance you will see combat in some shape or form. At the very least, you'll be running into bunkers all the time.

Pay attention to all the training you receive from your instructors. Some of it may seem different, but it is all valid.

..and you will be busy...lol.
