Because they need it.
i had to put a clutch in my Fiat once. the five speed transmission was longer than the four cylinder engine!

the transmission wasn't very heavy, but to get out of the car, you had to pull it out a ways until the input shaft was clear of the clutch, then rotate it about 90 degrees and then you could lower it to the ground out of your way.

mine was red, had the five slot aluminum rims like the one in the first picture, and mine had the tan leather interior with the tan top.

They were great looking cars. I've come close to buying one a couple of times, but then I think - FIAT - and move on.

My favorite brand is chevy, and I plan on picking up a 63-66 C10 as soon as I have the chance. But I currently drive a 04 Nissan Frontier. It's not a bad little truck, and 25 miles to the gallon sure does help my wallet out!

I had a 1969 C 20 Camper Special this color, but with pale yellow center panels.
Orange cab lights and "stump lights" mounted in a steel frame under the front bumper. Of course, it had the huge chrome, three bolt trailer mirrors.
I had an 8' Open Road slide in camper for it.
Owned for about 6 months and traded for a 1966 Impala conv.
