I figured he wouldn't give a real reason. And based on what he DID say, he was being polite to your wife. For all we know, he doesn't know sh*t about the situation. Is it his call who gets the job or someone else's? I don't know how these things work, to be honest.

Anyway, I suppose it doesn't really matter. Although if I were you, I'd tell your wife to try to get something in writing about getting preferential hiring when the next spot opens up. One's man's word is about as good as another's. Which is to say, not very.

I don't even know if she intends to wait for the next opening. Or if she will continue substituting and volunteering and the PTA.

Sounds like a mistake to me. He wanted to put you in the ditch. However, it is her vocation, not yours and you have to accept that she has the same right to be wrong that you do. That's how I saw off these kinds of things, anyway.

You did good, IMO. If everyone else refused to roll over these worms would think twice.

I think your wife is "letting" them off easy. Best of luck.

The F'ing PTA??? That's the same crap my wife spends about 20 hours a week supporting. All our smart and talented women do by supporting that joke of an organization is to prolong the lifespan of the corrupt teachers unions and NEA. Had to rant here since my wife is sick of heating it!

Good luck with your battle. DESTROY the enemy.

That was exactly how I felt and what I intended to do. I had them dead to right, too. The principal had violated the school board's policy, the No Child Left Behind Act, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

Sounds like they saw this as the easy out. They know you were going to have them for lunch and they bet that between you and Mrs. McCool they had a better chance with her and she would call you off.

I would maybe mention to het to get the promise in writing, but if she balks then back off. If momma's unhappy then everybody is unhappy.

Things to check on with the other candidate in my experience:

1. Are they sleeping with someone in power?
2. Are they related to someone in power.
3. Does someone in power owe the other candidate money.
4. Who has your wife pissed off.

In over 40 years on a workforce, I have seen some of the damndest hires.

Default Mrs. McCool, victim of injustice

I didn't think to update this thread until just now.
I had emailed and faxed letters of grievance along with some really tough questions about the employee selection to every member of the school board. The superintendent arranged a meeting with my wife a day prior to the school board meeting. She was satisfied just having her complaint heard and agreed to drop the whole thing. The other woman kept the crap job and Mrs. McCool continued to substitute; and now, the rest of the story.........
During the summer break and without any announcement, the principal was forced to retire and the vice principal was promoted to principal.
I hate that the guy lost his job. No I don't.
