In California the schools have dedicated funds for fighting lawsuits. These funds are separate from the funds for educating the kids. A lawsuit will not tap into education funds unless the school is foolish and fights a losing battle. (The past Superintendent at the district where I served di dthis and fully depleted the deferred maintenance funds to fight a lawsuit that he kept running through appeals. It should have been settled long ago but he kept fighting it for his own ego.)

Also; Be prepared! Have all of your documentation in an organized package with any referenced supporting documents copied in packets fro each board member and the clerk (and a couple of spares). Have your comments and bullet points on a script with you when you talk. Do not get sidetracked for any reason. If you don't know the answer to a question they pose then tell them you don't have that answer but you will get it and get back to them. Be professional and state your reasons for doing this (and they better not be personal!!!!).

Most importantly, live up to your name and stay cool!

I would be upset if I asked someone to let it go and they decided to do for me what THEY wanted to do rather than what I wanted for myself.
I'm afraid I have to agree with Winds. It sounds like she was treated very unfairly, but if I want something badly enough I will fight for it myself. If it is not worth the fight then I do not want someone else fighting it for me even though they mean only the best. Look at it this way, if something unfair happened at your job and she was the one fighting for you, would it change the way your boss and co-workers treat you? Would it be worth it?

I think us ladies view it differently than you men do.

When my wife was being treated poorly by her immediate boss( a VP @ Cable Vision) I Marched into her job in my leather vets vest and Red Beret with the nice shiny " three square on the bar" insignia,... And told her if she screamed at my wife again a Lawyer would be in touch with HR regarding her treatment of my wife. My wife didn't know I was coming either. She wrote my wife a two page letter of apology.

Since my wife left the job in Jan. of 2012, the VP has had 5 replacements. No one can stand working for her. My wife did it for 13 years....

One day before the school board meeting...

She made an appointment and met with the superintendent alone. She told her side of the story and the superintendent apologized and said he will help her if a vacancy opens in the future. She says she is happy.

Hmm. Well. I know this is just wishful thinking, but did the superintendent give a reason why this happened in the first place?

He did not. He said the principal made a poor decision but that was about it.
