I rekindled my desire to move to FL once again this past winter and went down there to look for work. Not much luck sadly, and as much as I HATE NJ for its stance on firearms, it looks like we are going to be here at least for the next 4-8 years.

It's a shame because our area of NJ (monmouth county) has everything you'd want, good schools, nice neighborhoods, not ridiculous property taxes, 4 seasons, close proximity to the beach, NYC and all my family, but it's in NJ and the NJ gun laws SUCK!!!!

Either way, if anyone is planning a move, let me know, I own a car transport company and can help move vehicles across the state or country... (blatant self promotion)...

Florida has a panhandle? <grin>

I spent a lot of time in the panhandle in my younger years. I loved it. I was mostly in the Graceville and Chipley area, and the ride over was beautiful. I think one of the things holding the panhandle back is the wage difference. Central Florida draws more people because of the higher salary base. What many don't take into consideration is the higher cost of living.

I live in Colorado. Even with the new stupid law. We are still pretty gun friendly. If my job fell through, I would leave. I would move to Arizona. I have lived there before. And no...I will not move to an anti-gun state, no matter how good the job is.

My deciding factors would also include the extra income. If I needed to sock money away for retirement, I would take that move. You can always return to more rural living later. I would have to consider if I had school age children and if I wanted to move them from their friends and their school. I would factor in how many more years I had to work.
I have a 2 year old so not a big attachment to friends at this point. Still a long ways to go before I retire as I am 31. Good point, the extra money could certainly be used to go towards retirement.

Eastern side. Just southeast of University Park.

Welcome to Florida, luckyj.

Come on down...
There is a range that I know of about 20 minutes away, near the Wildlife refuge. Right now my range of choice is about 30 minutes away.
