My dad used to go after morels when we lived in Indiana, he was born and raised around Mitchell IN. and knew a lot of good spots to find them.

Morel-mushroom hunting....... - The Club House

I found six while mowing around a cottonwood stump in my yard. Got done mowing, and headed to the woods and found 16 more, then another popped up by the stump. I'm not complaining a bit.

I have never hunted mushrooms but I would like to learn.

This time the year ranchers walk their pasture fences, fixing broken wires, wires pulled off due snow drifting (states that get snow) shortly before they turn their cattle to summer pasture.

This was the time the year my relatives were also on the lookout for wild foods, and some times you came across mushrooms, but as few as the morel were they would come back with a good handfull of wild asparagus.

My sister and I used to ride our horses along the roadside in the spring and harvest wild asparagus that we'd eat for lunch. It was always a good morning of riding and good food.

I've heard people say they grow under popler trees. I had a friend who somehow misidentified some shrooms that he found in his cow pasture. He said he was having visions and rolling around in the grass for hours.
