I always keep 500 rounds between the 40 and 45, 100 in the 357mag, 1000 rounds in the .22, and at least 40 in the rifle. But I would at least like to have double this if things went south.

I wonder how many anti-gun people read stuff like this and just crap their pants. They probably think we are all a bunch of nut cases. They will probably never get it.

Well, if you were bugging out (depends on the SHTF scenario) how much ammo can you reasonably carry (and for how many weapons)? How far will a tank of fuel take you if you can't get any more and you have to hump all your stuff?

So with those thoughts in mind a rifle and handgun of the same caliber and as much ammo as you can reasonably carry in a true SHTF scanerio if you are bugging out. You will have other stuff to carry also. Take as much as you can.

If staying put, you could have much more ammo.

In general, the minimum I feel comfortable having around the house is 500 rounds for each caliber.

Just my opinion.

It depends.

If I'm moving on foot I'd probably just have about 300ish preloaded into magazines with another couple boxes in my pack. Probably bring to total to about 500 or so.

Handgun, probably only 3 or 4 mags and a couple boxes of 50 in the pack. So about 100 or so.

In a vehicle I'd still have the same amount preloaded in mags, but I'd have closer to 1500 rounds (5.56, 30-06, and 5.7) and about 1000 for handgun (9mm, .40 and .45)

Operate on this principle:

"I will always need one battle pack more ammo than I currently have."
