All these events happening recently and no scientists are popping up claiming seismic or geological event kind of leaves me with the opinion of a man made problem. 
My guess is it's some form of pollution that has either made the waters too toxic or depleted the oxygen content. I'm not sure about this but didn't similar events happen years ago, like in the 70's?
Either way an autopsy on the fish should confirm what caused this incident
