Default Military - Old vs New

A good friend sent me this.
How true it rings.

"
MILITARY OLD AND NEW
(the old one won wars.)

1945 - NCO's had a typewriter on their desks for doing daily reports.
2016 - everyone has an internet access computer, and they wonder why
no work is getting done.

1945 - we painted pictures of girls on airplanes to remind us of home.
2016 - they put the real thing in the cockpit. & no paintings on airplane.

1945 - your girlfriend was at home praying you would return alive.
2016 - she is in the same trench praying your condom worked.

1945 - if you got drunk off duty your buddies would take you back to
the barracks to sleep it off.
2016 - if you get drunk they slap you in rehab and ruin your career.

1945 - you were taught to aim at your enemy and shoot him.
2016- you spray 500 bullets into the brush, don't hit anything, and
retreat because you're out of ammo.

1945 - canteens were made of steel, and you could heat coffee or hot
chocolate in them.
2016 - canteens are made of plastic, you can't heat anything in them,
and they always taste like plastic.

1945 - officers were professional soldiers first and they commanded respect.
2016- officers are politicians first and beg not to be given a wedgie.

1945 - they collected enemy intelligence and analyzed it.
2016 - they collect your pee and analyze it.

1945 - if you didn't act right, the Sergeant Major put you in the brig
until you straightened up.
2016 - if you don't act right, they start a paper trail that follows
you forever.

1945 - medals were awarded to heroes who saved lives at the risk of their own.
2016 - medals are awarded to people who work at headquarters.

1945 - you slept in barracks like a soldier.
2016 - you sleep in a dormitory like a college kid.

1945 - you ate in a mess hall, which was free, and you could have all
the food you wanted.
2016 - you eat in a dining facility, every slice of bread or pad of
butter costs, and you better not take too much.

1945 - we defeated powerful countries like Germany and Japan.
2016 - we come up short against Iraq and Afghanistan.

1945 - if you wanted to relax, you went to the rec center, played
pool, smoked and drank beer.
2016 - you go to the community center, and you can play pool.

1945 - if you wanted beer and conversation you went to the NCO or
Officers' Club.
2016 - the beer will cost you $2.75, membership is forced, and someone
is watching how much you drink.

1945 - the Exchange had bargains for soldiers who didn't make much money.
2016 - you can get better and cheaper merchandise at Walmart.

1945 - we could recognize the enemy by their Nazi helmets.
2016 - we are wearing the Nazi helmets.

1945 - we called the enemy names like "Krauts" and "Japs" because we
didn't like them.
2016 - we call the enemy the "opposing force" or "aggressor" because
we don't want to offend them.

1945 - victory was declared when the enemy was defeated and all his
things were broken.
2016 - we haven't a clue as to what victory is or what it takes to achieve it.

1945 - a commander would put his butt on the line to protect his people.
2016 - a commander will put his people on the line to protect his butt.

1945 - wars were planned and run by generals who knew how to fight and win.
2016- wars are planned by politicians who haven't a clue about fighting or winning.

1945 - we were fighting for freedom, and the country was committed to winning.
2016 - we don't know what we're fighting for, and the government is committed to social programs and political correctness."

I still have some of those old canteens, with the metal quart cups

which have a fold-up handle. I've yet to find a replacement as good,

military, or civilian, anywhere, for any price.

It's a shame, today's politicians are *****fying everything.

1945 - you could use your brain-bucket to heat water for shaving or washing your socks
2016 - you can use your brain-bucket for nothing else.

1945 - you were in the war "for the duration" (bomber crews excepted)
2016 - 4, 6, 9, or 12 month deployments

1945 - cigarettes in your C-rats
2016 - not. Army is worried about your "health" in a combat zone...

1945 Take care of your rifle and your rifle will take care of you.

2016 Your rifle is locked in the armory, and the pentagon will decide if you need it.

Don't know about the rest of you, but to me, this is a slap in the face to any veteran who's served since WWII. We who were in had very little to do with the way things were run or how they unfolded. Was Audie Murphy and his men encumbered by rules of engagement or the need to be concerned with collateral damage? Every branch of the military is under the authority of elected officials, who are guided by the prevailing winds of public opinion, which follows politically correct guidelines more often than not these days. You've gotten the military you want, and now you're not happy with it. You made the mess, you clean it up.

Donn, that's the whole point of this thread. I served 61-65. I was part of the "political correctness" being shoved down our throat. This thread is a humorous poke at politicians, and politically correct A-holes. not the troops.

Yeah, remember "Woe to you, if you be found without your rifle!" ?

Your rifle was your constant companion. If you went to eat, it went

with you. If you went to take a dump,

it went with you. It was with you, EVERYWHERE you went...

Nowadays, your only companion is PC vagina-gloves...

I expect you're right, Loc. Maybe I'm over-sensitive, (No, I know I am), but I've found it's a slippery slope from "humor" to "You drug crazed baby killers lost the war." I guess I should avoid threads like this all together.

Danf,
A lot of that in the above was still in effect at Ft. Leonard Wood in 1966! Brings back old memories.
From 185# to 166# in 6 weeks. Some memories!

This is my Rifle!
This is my Gun!
This is for Shooting!
This is for Fun!

And OH YES! the Dirty Lil cadence!

And taking my beloved M-14 from me and issuing us Mattie Mattel! Some of us old Salts here remember it well.

I also did not take it as a slam to the younger Vets which deserve great gratitude and get it from me! Most have not served one or two tours of combat but three, four or more! God Bless each one of you reading this Post and thank you for your service. I personally did interpret it as simply "directed at the corrupt politicians" which I have absolutely no respect for that are attempting to run and S****ing up our Military when the Military should be running our Military!
And God Bless the Old Vets here as well and the Great American Citizens here who support our troops and our Country.

I take great pride in being a part of the legion

of US armed forces veterans. It is society's

greatest fraternity.
