Correct. At age 13 he put together his first firearm, he then worked on it more, and sold the patent to Winchester where it was sold as the Winchester Model 1885.

The single shot 22 lever action, I was thinking it was that but I didn't remember the name and it was just a guess.

that's what it started as but then ended up as the 1885. The most popular large bore single shot rifle of the time.

Ref: Colts and Carcanos- they both used Gain Twist rifling. As you moved from the breech to the muzzle, the rate of twist increased. Concept was to start the bullet into the rifling, and increase the speed at which it rotated gradually.

Both Harrington & Richardson and High Standard, along with Fabrique National of Belgium, produced FAL's for US Army Testing. Designated the T48 it lost out to the T44 which was adopted as the M14.

What was the first standard-issue cartridge-firing revolver in US service?
