Any sriosu book thatcovers development of this technology does not state this either.

This can also be seen by the fact that the germans were ahead.
I'd need more than the say so of RR engineers.
if they were head they would ahve put engines in serivce beofre the germans especially since theyw ere not suffering form shortages of exotic raw materials the way the germans were.

I ahve learend over the years to distrust anything that comes ouyt of the UK's establishment about the war as it so often is later proven false or feely invented.

to be honest I looked this one up on Wikipedia and they gave me too many choices. At first I thought the Sherman, but knew you were to sneaky for that.
