Seems the consensus on the 'net is that I'm wrong....the odds of me admitting it are better than that of winning the MM, however.

I can't wait to see the math "whiz" at work who convinced me of it. He's anti-lottery, so I should've seen it.

South had the right idea...an extra "chance" does not increase the odds.

Just because you win does not mean you will be the only one to win and if multiple people hit the jackpot you split the prize. Subtract roughly 30% of the jackpot for taxes. Then you have to figure that it's more likely that multiple people will hit the jackpot numbers because of all the attention these jackpots get (more people will play this Friday than last) and it becomes far from a guarantee that you will make money. That doesn't mean that there are not groups that attempt to beat the lottery by buying tickets in mass. However you also have to get 175 million unique tickets and you only have 3-4 days to accomplish this.

We all know it is an idiot tax. I live in the south, therefore it is part of my dna. Seriously I have played the lottery 3 times in the last year. Something about record amount turns on a sleeper mechanism. I have to turn loose of 5 bucks when that happens. I have to say, it's alot of dreaming for 5 bucks.

Ha ha...yeah, me too! When it hits 250 mil, I buy a ticket. A buddy of mine buys every week, he says "why just buy @ 250 mil? You couldn't use an extra 15 mil?"

Another guy I work with made fun of me when he saw me buy a PB ticket. On my way out the door, he said "dude you're a moron". Then turns to the clerk, still snickering, and says "I need three packs of marlboro lights".
