well, apparently being a normal man in this country has changed. that retrosexual code is a good thing to go by, i never sign contracts, its just a handshake and the job gets done. i have never had my fingernails painted, worn make up, or done anything like wear tight jeans, levis are the way to go! kids nowadays want money without working, and think that it just grows on tree. the first gun i bought when i was 15 was a remington 870. i saved for it for months. it was $125. i love helping out good guys like farmers and other gentlemen such as yourselves. and money isnt always paymeny either, another thing kids dont do nowadays is the you scratch my back i scratch yours. and apparently NOBODY can work without money. if your boss is short one week, just tell him add it next time, work it out. i might still be young but this stuff is common sense, emo kids are a scary look at the future...

You know, this is a good thread that needs to be perhaps expounded with Rules from Our Elders.

Troy's post was really excellent. I enjoyed it.

When I was young, I was told the following things by my old man, who was always my DAD until I was old enough to call him my old man, which was about the last two years before he past away.

A man has a job. A man DOES NOT partake in shi'ite lay about activities if he DOES NOT have a job.

A man has credit, in good standing, and pays his bills. If you were dumb enough to garner the debt, you are man enough to pay it off. Even if that includes asking your dad for help because you got in over your head. You man up and ask for help, you don't slink away in the Nether-Nether.

You hold the door for any woman, and anyone older than you.

If you are in a bar, and there is a man in uniform, or wearing a ring of Service, cap or other designated ensignia, you buy that man a beer if you can afford it. You don't make a spectacle about it, you do it quietly and ask the waitress to bring them a round of what they are drinking.

If you meet someone for the first time, you stand up, give them a hearty handshake and look them in the eye.

You never raise your hand to a woman, or a child ( unless the child is yours and needs a spanking - NOT A TIME OUT ).

You also never allow a woman to have a hand raised to her in your presence. If you are there, you are to do something about it.

You know how to operate the basic hand tools and can atleast change your own tire, oil, assemble a table from a kit, or a tricycle for your child.

You apologize, and mean it, when you effed up and you know you are wrong.

Stuff like that is what was taught to me growing up.

What about some of you? What wisdom did your elders impart to shape you into the fine gentlemen ( and ladies ) I have grown to love?

I had discussion the other day with a guy regarding crow hunting. I had been told years ago that if a flock (murder?) of crows was in a tree, there would be a sentry crow, and if you took it out, the rest would just stay , and you could pick them off one by one. He had never heard this, and a third guy had.

The conversation turned to just how much wisdom has been lost over the decades, and at what point in time this stuff stopped being passed down.

We are endangered, boys.

Rambo-Stylez!

But pigs be some nasty critters up close. I took part in a "sanctioned" pig/hog shoot outside of Redding, Ca. when I was down there in about 2002.

I hit this one with a 168gr BTHP out of my .308 Broadside, just behind the front leg. It had to be a friggin heart shot. I'll be damned if that ornery bastard didn't turn and come right at our truck. He took, probably, 10 or 12 good sized "gallops" before he dropped.

I was so shocked I never bothered to chamber another round.

Haven't ever made that mistake again.
