One can run but cannot hide forever.
Bergen talked about that on The PBS Newshour.
Had Bin Laden been content to run and hide, he probably would never have been found.
But instead he was obsessed with attempting to run Al Qaida from the compound, so he used 2 brothers as couriers to do so.
And that's how he was found by the CIA.
Here is what Peter Bergen reports as what Bin Laden and his 3 wives and their kids, together with the 2 married couriers who lived together at the Abottabad compound ate and subsisted on:
- 2 goats per week
- milk from cows housed in stalls
- eggs from 100 chickens kept in cages
- honey from bees in a hive
- vegetables from a garden
- olive oil and Quaker oats bought at a local grocery.
They were living like dirt poor trust babies, the kind who no longer have enough income to subsist on their inheritance.
They were definitely not getting fat.
