Man Punches Grizzly Bear
A 50-year-old man is in hospital after fighting off a grizzly bear with his bare hands near Bella Coola, B.C. Friday.

Jerry Lacerte was walking to a friend’s house near Thorsen Creek at around 8 a.m. when he was attacked by a grizzly bear that was with her two cubs.

“I saw three bears and the mother bear just started attacking me,” Lacerte said.

Lacerte started fighting for his life as the bear lashed out at him, cutting his face and arms.

“I punched her right square in the nose,” he said. “I gave it all I had to get away.”

Thankfully, Lacerte’s final blow was enough to scare off the grizzly and stop the attack.

..that Indian is one very tough hombre.

Doesn't look like it. The article has a picture of him in a hospital bed. I'd say he's just one of those rare people who don't give in to fear and can just naturally think clearly in a very painful and deadly situation. Too bad it can't be bottled; whatever it is.

Looks like she got him a little in the face, too, but not too bad. Grizzlies typically go for the head and face. Years ago I lived down south near Cardston. A doc who worked in the emergency department had moved up there from Detroit. I remember him saying that he'd dealt with a lot of gunshot and knife wounds in the years he worked emergency in Detroit but those wounds were nothing compared to what a Grizzly bear can do to a human.
