We just found out our dog, my companion for eleven years, has lung cancer, and given just days to live.
Its not easy to loose a companion that's been with you so long, being disabled having her around has been a blessing. As a pup she was all teeth and energy hence she was named Taz after the cartoon tazmanian devil, she has mellowed alot, but don't try to get in the house on her watch.

TAZ you will be missed
Im going to miss you so much

It's always sad when a great dog dies. They truly are man's best friend. You have by condolences. :(

I'm with you buddy, I have a 16 y/o black lab that is my best friend. Times are rough for him and it's gonna be rough to see/let him go but Thats the worst part about having a companion everything else is the greatest thing ever. Your post made me go check on him and give him a cookie. It's a crappy situation but as long as you gave him/her the best possible life you can't regret nothing...they live this long because they don't want to leave. Atleast that's what my vet told me  I know we don't know eachother but if you need someone to talk to I'll be willing to help out.

I know what you mean, we just lost ours as well.
I took him in because he was limping and looked weak. It turned out he had an enlarged heart and tumors.
It's a big loss when they are part of your life so long, then suddenly taken away.

I'm so sorry, Paintsplat. Know that you gave her a great life and that she has been your faithful companion for so long. You owe it to her to let her go out easy. You are in my thoughts.

I'm going through the same thing with my companion.
I live alone with him and all we have are each other.
He's 17 and on 5 different meds.
You have my condolences.
Peace

we have one hope, that it might be a fungal infection in her lungs, going to try to get the test tomorrow (Monday). I don't think shes in pain no whimpering, she just breaths heavy and cant get comfortable, she come she still comes to check on me, And I cant do anything for her, this was dropped on us with no warning one day shes playing with me, the next she has trouble breathing don't mind the ranting, I'm taking this very hard, just dont know what to do

My daughter lost her service dog which she had for 12 years. It's like losing a spouse. I know what you are going through and you have my sympathy & prayers.

I don't want to give you false hope.

My guy is now 513 days past when the vet wanted to put him down.

We were torn on what to do, but decided it would be obvious to us when it was time. He's still greeting us at the door, tail wagging.

He's had bad days in that 513, but also good ones. I'm frankly pi$$ed that the vet suggested it, and then I find I would have robbed him of a year and a half of fun and beef jerky.

I know it will come, and likely soon. But I've lost faith in people doctors, and vets are worse to me.

I refuse to give up on him until he let's me know it's time.

I pray that this works out for you.
