To get $200 worth of copper, they do $100,000 dollars in damage. SMDH.

You will read all sorts of excuses for their behavior. However, violation of electrical safety standards carries its own penalties, they are applied swiftly, and there is no appeal.

10 years ago I had two morons like this do 40k worth of damage to project when they bhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-cvipwCcm8&sns=emroke in and cut data wire.

The amount of copper in a pickup bed full of low volt "might" be worth a whopping 40 bucks...

Why aren't the recycling centers liable for receiving stolen property?

No offense and none taken

They are supposed to be but I guess it varies. When I bring scrap in they take video, ID and they ask what it is and where you got it as well as checking it for radiation.

The recyclers in San Jose CA can't take spent brass cases. Apparently there is a local ordinance prohibiting it. Drive up to San Leandro and they will take as much as you bring no problem.

In our area we had some geniuses go to all the work and trouble to cut and remove a section of underground cable that belonged to Comcast. It was fiber optic cable, that is worth about $5000 in repair to Comcast, but worthless on the scrap market.

No fatal mistakes in this incident, just blatant stupidity.
