How are your professors over there? If you write a 15 page paper about how awesome guns are, would you get an F? Would you get in trouble?

I have had a drug addict threaten to kill me, then assault me. My wife called the police, who showed up 18 minutes later.

most definitely, but that wouldn't be because of the claim, what weapons ruled, but because i must stay objective

Ah yes. The myth of objectivity.
Learn this while you are young. There is no such thing as objectivity. Everyone, EVERYONE has some kind of bias. It's human nature. The important thing is to be able to recognize the bias of whoever the source is and evaluate it on that basis.
When you get done with your writing, you will write with some kind of bias yourself based upon the information you have gathered and your own world-view. There's nothing wrong with that. But anyone expecting objectivity is simply foolish.

naturally i will show it in a certain light, but i guess writing 15 pages declaring my love to the awesome weapon that is a gun, would be a little over the top, don't you think?

I would not recommend you include pictures of you with an AR rifle in compromising positions.
