They put out high frequency, which screws with certain things, like sensitive electronics. I have not heard that about electronic scales, but it makes sense….

As another alternative to the CFL's, they make CFL's that are "instant on", i.e., they come on at full brightness. I have one in my basement stairwell and they work as advertised. But they are a little more expensive than standard CFL's, and they use a bit more energy. So for me, I choose to just make the jump to LED. But if you really like the CFL lights you have that option.

The Ballast Transformers in CFL's somehow have been exempted from emissions. Dont ask me how they got away with it but they emit craploads of IR and RF. There is also a visual deficiency caused by the flicker of the oscillator that doesnt help any. Fluorescent lighting just isnt great light, just cheap light.
