Lightbulbs-WTF?

I have a desk lamp that uses 2 G16.5 bulbs (standard lightbulb base, small bulb, like an oven bulb).
The original bulbs lasted about 3 years. In the last year I've replaced the bulbs 3 frikken times!
I've tried all the different brands and it makes no difference. Hell, I bought one pack of Sylvanias, and both blew out within a day.
The bulbs have been made in Mexico, Thailand, Vietnam, and god knows where else.
I just can't believe it's that hard to make a lightbulb. Hell, we've been doing it for almost a hundred fifty freaking years. You can't give me a bulb that will last more than 2 or 3 months?
Edison and Tesla must be rolling. They'd never have imagined that their ideas would have been so corrupted just to make a fast buck.

Planned obsolescence to the Nth degree.

Maybe the connection is slightly shorting and burning out the bulbs quickly?

i replaced most of the most commonly used bulbs in my house with the CFL bulbs about eight years ago. about 12-14 bulbs in all. i have replaced one of them in that time. the higher initial cost pays for it in the long run.

the one here in my office in the desk lamp, stays on 24/7 and very seldom is ever turned off. it's over eight years old and was one of the first ones that i tried out.

I bought some of those new halogen replacement bulbs a couple years ago. They were supposed to last for five years or so. None made it through this year. :(

this. might be the lamp. also check your wall socket might be shorting and could be a sign the wall socket has gone south. happens a lot at season changes if its on a outside wall. the connections can corrode causing funky electrical issues

All the bulbs in our home are CFL, can`t remember the last time I replaced a bulb !......

No, it's an interior wall. Nothing has changed. Just buying new bulbs. Granted, it's a weird bulb size, I think we're just getting inferior crap from second and third world countries.
Who knows what is being used for the filament? Whatever it is, it isn't worth a flying fork.

Bite the bullet and get led bulbs they are pricey but will out live you.

I just bought a bunch of LEDs for my hotel hallway. I used them to replace CFLs that were not bright enough. The new LEDs are much brighter. They use less energy. But they are mega expensive. I think I paid like $19 each. I bought 40 or 50 of them for just one hallway.
