Legal to sell Kevlar?

I have a level 3 Kevlar helmet and I was wondering if it was legal to sell it as a private owner? It says advanced combat helmet under the left ear. And under that it says advanced defense system with some numbers. It was issued to a friend of mine and he gave me his whole military uniform including a bit of Kevlar. Is it legal in the state of Arizona to sell??? Or even to have.

i'm not sure but I believe it is government property and you might not legally be able to own it.

How would I find out if it is legal?

It isn't legal if he didn't give you the paperwork showing that the said helm was discharged form the service.

Gay. How do I do the right thing and not get screwed for it?

marlin-owner 07-24-2012 09:56 AM

I get that there should be paper work but the helmet was issued to him and he left with it. Does anyone else think if it was not discharged they would have shown up to take it back? The cerial numbers were issued to him. If it was missing they would know the numbers and taken it back? Am I over analyzing this? It just wouldn't make sense if it was not discharged they would show up and take it back. Or is that one way they like to take your rights away? It just doesn't make sense to me.

OK- some of you are using auto correct that is messing up. The rest of you may be posting while drunk.

Service members are issued items of clothing. In general, when they leave the service, they may keep those.

They are also issued items of EQUIPMENT. Stuff that belongs to the govt. The service member does NOT own the radio, rifle, binoculars, rucksack, canteen- or helmet. When they are no longer using it, the govt wants it back.

While there is no broad Federal law against selling armor and helmets (in the US- export is another matter) you may not sell or give away what you do not own. And those helmets are not cheap.

If I were you I'd call the Military Police from his base and inform them. It pay not have been his to give away.

I would call your friend that gave it to you. If there are any numbers that can be traced back to your friend then give it back to him and let him deal with it. Why not just keep the stuff.

The current crop of helmets are not Kevlar, they are Spectra shield. Not illegal to own or sell, but if still gov't property could cause some problems. VERY illegal to export.
