Lawnmower: I Need One - But What One?
 

No, the kid down the street, or stopping at Labor Ready isn't going to cut it. :p

My yard is about 35 feet wide and about 120 feet long. It doesn't warrant a riding lawn-mower, but it's on a slope and I want it to be self propelled.

So, I have rented a couple of Honda's, and while nice, they are built for smaller stature people. The handle just isn't capable of being set to a level for my height.

I also rented a John Deere, but it was about 4 years old, and it wasn't in the best shape. It worked fine, but I don't think it was indicative of what they are putting out today - I am sure.

So, I know we have several landscapers ( professional & amateur ) and I am sure several of you have much bigger yards than I do, so what are you using?

What's in your lawn care shed/garage/cubby hole?? And why that model?

A 15 year old Snapper push, Briggs 6 hp, person propelled. I just gave away a Troy-Bilt rider. Staying in shape and keeping the BP down is one of my main goals now-a-days. My lawn is slightly less than an acre. Takes about two hours to push and burns several hundred calories. Just my two cents. Have a blessed day!

Allis Chalmers 616 with a 60 inch deck. Simplicity 5216 with a 48 inch deck. Snapper 33 inch deck with vaccum. Stihl string trimmer. 4 1/2 acres of freaking yard. Three hours wide open. Pick you up a 4 hp push mower at Wal-Mart for a $149.00. You will use it for 5 or 6 years or more with that small a yard.

Not so much help there.

I am not overly concerned with the best under $200 option. I would prefer to buy the best mower for the application and take care of it so I get 10 plus years out of it.

Any professional yard folks out there that can tell me what they use in their work and why??

LMFAO! I bought one of those about 23 years ago. You won't get a better, more level cut! Problem is they don't work if you skip a week!

JD - go to Wally World and pick up a Weed Eater 24" cut 6.75 hp Briggs. I bought one last year for $179. My lot is only 90 x 135 and takes about an hour. You don't need a self-propelled to do what you mentioned. I do have an old MTD 42" riding mower from my last house with 2 acres of lawn, but I can't justify using it when my 70 yr. old neighbor uses a push mower!
