Just a Routine Traffic Stop

Got this in email this AM.

Html : VIDEO: January police shooting

Jo da Plumbr 04-23-2010 05:08 PM

Excellent reaction by the officer.

Good shot placement too from the outcome.

Damn! That cop was lucky as hell. I am really glad that his first hesitation did not result in him lying on the pavement.

His reaction once he unleashed his weapon, his footwork and his target focus was VERY good.

Glad the good guys pulled that one out.

Dang! Great reactions by the officer and one less piece of phlegm in the population.

Anyone notice which hand the officer had his flashlight in?

NitroxAZ 04-23-2010 05:19 PM

Bad decision by the perp. Excellent reaction by the officer.

Good job officer...and another POS down the drain

I think the LEO was lucky the perp was drunk.

Way too relaxed for a night stop.

That was an unnecessary surprise. IMO he should have had his hand on his weapon until he assessed the situation. He could have ended that situation much quicker, albeit with the same outcome.

I would have done a tactical reload before I picked up my flashlight.

Sorry guys, I’m just sayin’. http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v...12twocents.gif
I just went back and reviewed the video again. Why wasn't the LEO watching the perp's hands?

That LEO would be dead, or at minimum wounded if the perp had taken the safety off prior to poking that cannon in his face. You can see the perp pull the gun back in the truck, probably to take the safe off, and then back out to shoot.

Your OODA loop only takes ~0.25 seconds to complete. I wonder what this LEO was preoccupied with?

The LEO didn't clear his holster until he was shot at! If he has time to say shit, he had the time to draw and shoot!

I think this would be a great training video for what NOT to do.

Any LEO input?

I'm glad this guy is alive and celebrate with you as to the perp's end result but..........this cop had a guardian angel riding shotgun!

Glad the officer is ok. I can see the flaws that Canebrake is talking about but I sure as hell not judging him, I'd like to think I would have been quicker but it wasn't me who had the gun shoved in the face and like they say "No battle plan survives contact with the enemy."
The officer did good on moving which is always good in a gun fight. I counted 13 shoots fired by the officer, I wonder what answer he came up with in his head afterwards.

My Father use to say "99% boredom 1% shear terror." Seeing things like that remind me of the 1%. My Uncle went on a ride along with my Dad once. He said he saw my Dad unbutton his holster as he walked up on a routine traffic stop. When he asked my Father why he did that the response was "More of us die that way, than any other." Routine traffic stops. Terrible. I'm glad the guy got what was coming to him.
