This is a book my Dad gave me long ago. Bill Mauldin keep a lot of WWII GI's morale up in combat! His cartoons were published in Stars and Stripes.
My Dad met Bill in theater around Luxembourg in 1944. He also met Ernest Hemingway and Ernie Pyle, more names not mentioned in history books today.
My Great Uncle gave me a 40's copy of Up Front, Mr Maudlin really got it right. My favorite one is the bombed out building with the one pane of glass and he tells his buddy "go ahead, you know you want to do it". Or something like that. You are right, I shudder to even consider what they are teaching for revisionist history today in school. I remember how big a deal the bicentennial was, if it happened now I imagine it would get little more than a passing interest. Sorry, got a little off topic. Too much Red White and Blue in my DNA.
