Here's a question. In what film did John Wayne play a role of one of the father's of naval aviation?
i can't remember the name of the movie, but he played the charater Spig Weid who was very much a real person.

that's the one where he was partially paralyzed, IIRC.

I never got to meet my Grandma on my Dad's side because she passed before I was born but she LOVED John Wayne. Seeing this thread made me smile.

I always remember that he was a real "Bridge" between the B-Westerns as 'Singing Sandy"and the real Frontier. His acting coach for walking, gun handling etc was Wyatt Earp.

My favorite is "Allegheny Uprising", it is from the 30s. Followed by in roughly this order:

"Rio Lobo"

"McClintock"

"Rio Bravo"

"Big Jake"

"El Dorado"

Ok too many to list, pretty much whatever JW movie comes on is my favorite at that moment.

I have to say I like The Cowboys even though his character dies in it. I met Bobby Carradine many years ago and asked him about John Wayne. He said that He was a genuinely good person. He told me about when he was on the set for The Cowboys and trying to either quick-draw or to throw a rope that Wayne came up and gave him some lessons, treating him just like he would treat his own kid. That says a lot to me.
Carradine played Slim (one of the boys) in the movie. Carradine liked that I asked about one of his favorite movies and actors rather than the recent Revenge of the Nerds movies he had just done.
