The Hellfighters was loosely based and inspired by the real oil well firefighter Red Adair. damn good movie with Jim Hutton who was also in the movie The Green Berets.

as i said before, it would be hard for me to pick just few favorites of his, because there are so many of his movies i enjoy seeing.

sad that the movie industry didn't recognize him more than they did. only one Oscar for True Grit. i feel he was deserving of much more than just one.

Bruce Dern even received death threats after the movie the Cowboys was released! some people took it pretty literal JW getting killed in that movie! JW even told BD that people were going to hate him after that movie was made. the Cowboys was good movie and BD did play an excellent villian in that movie.

Axxe,,, when I worked oilfields in west Texas, I lived in the Odessa area just a couple of miles from Red's office there off I-20,, I went there just to see the place and picked up a " Red Adair " ball cap, which I still have but I haven't worn for years,, may have to dig it out since this reminder.

IIRC, John Wayne even made a cameo appearance on the first episode to promote the new show.

one of my favorite John Wayne war movies has got to be, "The Green Berets". excellent movie, that he did in regard to many of the anti-war protesters over the Vietnam War. i liked Jim Hutton's character in the movie as well. Jim Hutton was the father of actor Timothy Hutton.

Just found it in the bargain bin at Walmart on Blu-ray a month or so ago for 7 or 8 bucks.
