Down side is the added length and weight hanging off the transmission. If they don't get the proper support they will break the tranny case.
As to the brake issue if you are talking about an auto shifter tranny driving thru the brakes, that is why they make stall converters..
I am running a 203/205 in my Bronco right now. It has a 120:1 crawl ratio and will idle up almost anything. I do need to change the tire size and axle gears, probably go to 4.88 and 35's from my current 4.11 and 33's. I have been considering another 203 but I think that may be a little ridiculous. A bit of a never ending project but that is half the fun.

I've seen those "frankenstein" double cases, even considered getting/building one. but then I found the Strong Box and the cost difference was close enough that i would go with it instead. one problem i was having trouble getting around was where to put three additional shifters in the cab of a 89 cherokee. I'm still contemplating that one. a 7.13 double-low is so tempting. and with the 300, i would get 2-low, 2-double-low, and my choice of which axle is driven. ooh, they also make a 4:1 kit for the D300! 10.88:1 low!!!!

I am at 120:1 in my Jeep and for me that is the perfect crawl ratio. I have been as low as 140:1 but I was doing as much wheeling in high range as I was low.
