Hi my name is kevyn and i'm currently in Brisbane,Australia.I'm new to this forum and would like advice on my first gun.I have a firearms license and all so i should be able to get my hands on pretty much most of the rifles(can't own semi-autos/full autos though).I have already fired lots of .22lr so could i have any other suggestions besides those ? =D thx in adv

What kind of shooting are you looking to do? Cheap all around good times will be had with the good old Mosin or some other bolt gun in .223/ 5.56.

hmm i want to do like 300< target shooting.Not hunting though not really into killing stuff

G'day Kev, and welcome to the forum. We have a few of your countrymen that lurk around here from time to time.

In GENERAL, the .308 Winchester is a good cartridge for 300 meters (and beyond) and for which it is relatively easy to find ammo/ components. However, you may also want to look at some of the 6mm family of rounds, as well as things like the .204 Ruger.

Some of the factors guiding your choices will be availability where YOU live, price, and just what you want to do with it. While I enjoy shooting some of my older MILSURP rifles, for 300 yard bullseye matches, I would not be pulling out the 91/30s or the SMLE's. For casual plinking? Oh HELL yeah!

Gd day c3.You seem to be experienced in shooting so mayb you could help me out.Well I'm more of a casual shooter(no hunting i might want to study to be a vet after my current degree so hunting stuff won't exactly give me a gd record)and i have quite a tight budget i made another thread about tactical rifles and apparently 1.7k usd can't get me as much as i like so...anyway thats my budget 1.7k give or take 200.I'm thinking of mayb a remington 700 with a AICS/AX AICS what do you think about it?Any recomendations?I know you gave me some catridges to try out but can i have like a specific rifle model or brand?I dun really know like what's a good rifle and what isn't so mayb u could help?Thx in adv

btw do you know if i could buy only the bolt and barrel for the 700 and just dump em into a AICS?would it be cheaper?
