I wish the army would/could get some better internet connection, I'm trying to talk to my buddy over the net right now and it keeps dropping him... I don't see how people alledgedly have video chat with people while they are "over there". Its a pain in the ass trying to setup some plans to go shooting when he gets in and it keeps dropping him from the chat.

Understand what you are saying, but I can also recall a time when GIs overseas might get to make a VOICE call home using MARS- Military Affiliate Radio System- where your call got patched thru a series of HAM radio operators until it hooked back to a landline near their home. We woulda thought ANY interwebz stuff was pure sci-fi!

Yeah, I can only imagine it is much better than it used to be. He comes in on the 1st and he is planning on buying a fn mk17 (scar heavy). If he does, I'll put some pics up for everyones viewing pleasure

We had to pay out the butt to get Sniperhill the last time I was there. Afghanistan is no better. It's $100/month to attempt to Skype.

The Military or DKO chats works great and we can use those at work.

I use to chat on the internet with a buddy of mine while he was over there. We got dropped quite a bit and if he wasn't dropped, the connection would hand up for five minutes at a time.
They did have some words that would cause the connection to get dropped too. Some of the town names in the area, oddly enough the word pu$$y would disconnect it too. Weird, but it's the government's sand box. They make the rules.

We are paying $120 a month to get internet. It's just enough to skype with the wifey!!!

Cory you also have to remember that they are in the middle of a war zone. The infastructure was hardly there before we blew the crap out of the place. So I am sure internet is not the main concern to the engineers that are rebuilding all of it. Running water and power are going to be priority #1.

I couldn't have imagined a computer based conversation connection when I was in the service. I did make a collect call to my father from a nightclub in Hong Kong...$45 for 10 minutes, 1988.
