It's my understanding that if a bill is not approved by the 180 days or 6-9-13 (but whose counting) then the FOID card would essentially be the carry permit.

Yes!! But if it's a step to being a "May Issue" state that would suck for them. We in NJ know all about that and sucks! Unless you're a retired military or LEO.

That's a pretty damn big deal. Any idea why the hell NJ is may issue?? Not to hijack the thread in any way but I really would love to get a clear understanding of that.

Hate to throw cold water, but having lived in Chicago and knowing the political climate there, I wouldn't be running off to the LGS shopping for Glocks and IWB holsters. This isn't over yet, not by a long shot, (no pun intended).

Just like the federal government is supposed to stay out of state issues, I think states should make it so cities have to stay out of state issues.
You want dumb gun laws Chicago, fine. But you don't get to force your laws on the state.

I hate cities and city folk.

I have to disagree friend. The constitution doesn't say only those who take classes have rights.

I have very mixed feelings about this.

I feel that evryone has the right but I also feel that everyone has the responcibility to be safe in carrying.

Here in Indiana if you go in and ask for a CCW permit and you have not been convicted of a felony you just pay $150.00 and wait for the mailman to bring it.

I know of several people who have gotten the permit and have never held a gun in their life.

I would not object to a form of testing to see that I am at least capable of handling a firearm in a safe manner but then who is to decide how compitent I need to be?
