EMP, ElectroMagnetic Pulse, is a very real treat as we continue on in the decades to come. They can come from several if not many sources:

What if, one of these EMP's hits your town, and you have all your guns, all your ammo, in one of these?



What plains should you have in place, to make sure you can get to your cache should the S#$T really hit the fan?

Myself, I have old fashioned locks on MOST of my gun safes, and my ammo safe. Yes, they are slower to open, but they will open after an EMP attack.

I changed all my guns over to have the "Smart" technology.
To use it, one has to be wearing the correct ring, input the correct password, "touch" the firearm in certain places (another security confirmation) just to fire them.

AND YOU COME OUT WITH EMP?

That kind of package hasn't been used in a looooong time. I've been in the rock bustin' business since '78 and have only seen cardboard boxes. When we used dynamite I used to always get a pretty good headache, I was glad when we went to the bologna tubes of emulsion stuff to prime the anfo.

Thanks for the link, but that thread was different than this one, this thread asks how does one get into a safe, get to your guns, that has been hit by EMPs?

I did not see that other thread speaking to the subject of safes at all.

Question remains, how many of us, store guns, ammo, in safes not resistant to EMPs?

If you do, I suggest you possible rethink putting all your eggs in that basket.

I keep the cache in combination tumbler safes, and a few guns and ammo in digital combination safes, for quick access to a gun or two, until I can open the storehouse.

Something to think about.

I gov that wants to disarm the public, only needs to go bang one time over a city, to stop cars, buses, trains, and every digital safe.

Fireguy- not only are the wooden boxes straight out of the past- DuPont got completely out of the explosives business LONG ago. But a cardboard box of Unigel or Orica just does not have the same visual impact, now does it?

The chubs of emulsion are good- saves a lot of inventory trouble that you WILL have working with bulk ANFO. For the nitro headaches- ice cream.

And there are some lovely specialized products out there now- got to take a look at some HTX products- made for downhole oilwell work. Pressures and temps that would deadpress any other powder- this stuff still shoots. Mix of HNS and TATB. Good up to about 350 degrees, and 10,000 psi pressures.

And AR- even tho I am joking with you, you have a very valid point- not just for EMP, but lightning, batteries, etc. And yes, my safes do really have a key backup. I have a couple of containers that use the old high security Sargeant & Greenleaf combination locks.

I recently purchased a Liberty Franklin 35. It had the digital lock on it. I had them put an S&G combination lock. I know they are much slower than the electric but an emp or cme was in the back of my mind when I had them change it. I also saved 189.00 dollars with the conventional lock. As far as it being slower to get to my guns, I think that has been worked out. When I come home I work the dial and turn the handle so that if I need in the safe all I have to do is pull it open. I lock the safe just before I leave in the morning. It's just my wife and myself at the house.

My safe only uses a key so I'm safe.
