I knew this guy who called everyone driving slower than him on the highway a "moron" while also calling everyone driving faster than him a "maniac". I think that same line of thought is often applied to the "ammo hoarding" label.

I think i need a bit more ammo than i have, not 30,000 of each caliber, but not 100 per either.

It's all relative.

210 rounds of M855 ball, and 45 rounds of 9MM +P+. That's it for social work.

30K for day to day practice would be great, but if you need more than a standard load out of "duty" ammo you're dead anyway.

It would be great to have that many. I wonder how long it would take me to shoot it all? At my current rate, it would take the rest of my life probably, but that's for lack of.I think I could probably shoot 30k in a month, slightly uncomfortably.

In my opinion, that's more than enough for your average gunfight. I can resupply later, either from my "home station" or by looting bodies of the dead.

if SHTF I do NOT want to make a Waco stand in my home. We all know how that worked out for them. I want to be light, mobile, and have a small logistical footprint. I'm headed to the woods, and plan to live off the land, and avoid as many people as possible, NOT go walking the streets of the cities looking for a fight. (that's assuming some type of economical collapse. if we go martial law and have another revolution...that's a different story)

but this guy was also trying to sell the "green tip" ammo at .80 per round, claiming that it's the only thing that'll punch through the armor that homeland security is going to be wearing when they come to your door.

he gave me a funny look when I said "I have a 3/8" plate of steel out in the garage that I punched holes in like it was paper, using standard lead core, copper jacket ammo, even my hollow point hunting rounds were punching through it like it was nothing"

To my buddy that I'm talking about...if you happen to be on this forum...I love ya man, but I think your position was just a little off the mark! haha.

It would be nice, but I don't think I even have 1000 rounds total for all of my guns! The current market doesn't help either. My wife is going for her concealed carry training this weekend, and obviously wants a pistol, but dang can't find any ammo other than .380, bird shot, and rifle calibers.

I watched a video that said 1000 rounds per caliber. Some people believe 1000 rounds per gun. However, during the current dry up I feel uncomfortable shooting any of the 1300 rounds of .22LR I have so maybe 1000 rounds isn't quite enough. But I figured I can only carry 250 rounds of each caliber realistically with the exception of the .22LR which I can carry all of. So it depends on what your intentions are. If you intend to shoot for fun during ammo dry ups more would be ideal. If you are just waiting for a bug out situation, a revolution, or the zombies then maybe more in the 250 rounds is more realistic. Where as if you are planning to make a stand and hunt during the end of the world 30,000 may be the way to go.
