After you’ve seen a few crawling out of the bellies of dead cows it’s a little difficult to picture one on your plate.

Problem solved!

This is embarrassing. I just had to put a light out there. Possums are creatures of the dark.

They'rrrre baaaaack.
For the first time in five months, a (an?) opossum was found in the cat house tonight. I ran him off. (Took a shot at him and missed. It's dark out there.)
I really thought the light was working. A stronger light might work better, but I opted for the weird glowing yellow bug light. Somehow insects are not attracted to it. you gotta take the bad with the good.

Sort of made me think though. The only gun that isn't locked up in the safe is a .45 Hi-Point JHP pistol. I have an amazing shotgun with a light on it. I should have more firearms immediately available. It takes forever to get the key, open the safe, get the gun, get the magazine..... I have children in the house. I need to find another place to keep an unsecured firearm.

The girls never cared about guns, but the boy is ten now and he is fascinated. (He must get that from his mother?) He does have two guns of his own, a .410 and a .22. They stay in the safe unless we go plinking or hunting. He knows fooling with a gun will earn him a spanking, but I remember temptation being overwhelming.

I'll have to drink it over tonight.

That was the fastest possum I have ever seen. He was armadillo speed.

My 80lb lab and 6 lb Yorkie/Pomeranian were pretty good at keeping opossums out of the yard. Of course they would have run the cat off or eaten it, so that may not be a great option for ya.

I used a bow and arrow to quietly eliminate and finish off several opossums in our neighborhood back in Georgia. It kept things quieter for the neighbors.

Borrow a box trap/hav-a-heart trap and set it out. The cat will, hopefully, learn to avoid it before the possums figure it out. When trap is full and feline-free, submerge in a garbage can full of water, deep enough to completely submerge the whole trap...you could have some fun with a small welding machine at this point but I digress.

I once got a leash/lasso on a possum; I do NOT recommend it as anything other than a motivation to improve your aerobic abilities.

Yes, they can be fierce when the "playing dead" routine doesn't work.

They always open their mouths real wide to show off their teeth. Never try to bite, just show their teeth.
