so..where are we.
i have a 5 ton trailer needing to get 1500 miles down the road, and toss in a c10(wet). what will pull it legally and safely?
how many say 95 a 2500 gmc 4wd on a standard ball hitch? im hoping, because its the only thing i can offer him.
so please...spare me the ethnic insults. im helping a friend and asking your advice.
dolly: of the 4 states its going thru, 2 require the towed truck to be registered. we weighed that option and were planning to disconnect the shaft and drag it rears touching. tow bar puts 4 on. it would be a last resort, but he wouldnt get the trailer there.
Bumper mounted hitch balls are not rated for that sort of tow. Have a frame mounted hitch installed. Tow it on a dolly with surge brakes minimum.
Personally, I would (and MobileMarine would too I'm betting) probably tow it cross country with the 2500 depending on the condition of the truck, but I would have to have the electric brake controller on the truck and a frame mounted hitch installed. Would not do it without those two things minimum.
As I recall the 95 2500 GMC with the V8 is rated for 10,000lb tow capacity. That means the trailer and the truck. Don't fill the bed of the truck with your anvil collection and 20,000 rounds of .45 ACP.
