A lawn mower will pull it but is it worth it ? Fines are very steep for overloaded trucks . Is the trailer a deckover ? Tandem , tandem axle dual wheel ? Size ball ?
tongue weight loaded ?
Trailer tires and bearings good ? Steel deck or wood ?
Check rear end oil and axle seals
Trans fluid or oil , any leaks ? Coolant and engine oil
When you strap or chain the load down remember to X the straps to prevent side to side movement as it WILL happen .
MOST IMPORTANT >>> SPARE TIRES !!!! and a jack but a rock or chunk of wood will work too
The road trip you are about to venture on I would have no part of .
I would either rent a NEW F-350 or the like and maybe even a Uhaul car trailer .
Or
find a transport company that would be going or coming empty or with a open spot to fill for a few hundred bucks .
Where is the truck and where is it going ?

And if he wouldn't do it. It's past the point of bad idea...

uhaul wont rent a trailer. all their computers say a c10 on their trailer wont work.
truck companies...been there done that. i advertised on a bid website to find a contractor to pickup and deleiver to sight and they wanted 1500.00 min.
truck isnt worth it. driving the truck 1500 miles would be the same amount and it would then be 1500 more miles on it. try to picture a c10 on I40 going 55 max? no way.

the trailer is a tandem axle 4 wheel flat bed to a standard ball hitch on a bumper.

distance..1/2 way across america on interstates.

You have other options... Tow bar or a wheel dolly. Lighter and you save the expense of not towing a 3000 lb trailer.

Is there a shortage of C10s where you're going? You're going to spend $2000 delivering a $500 truck? <confused>

uhh....im helping a guy get his trailer to destination and oh by the way, here take this truck too.
trust me, i wouldnt do it unless it was for a friend and a favor. are any of you man enough to give your truck away to a friend? oh and here, borrow my other truck to tow it.
silence falls over the crowd....

so..where are we.
i have a 5 ton trailer needing to get 1500 miles down the road, and toss in a c10(wet). what will pull it legally and safely?

how many say 95 a 2500 gmc 4wd on a standard ball hitch? im hoping, because its the only thing i can offer him.

so please...spare me the ethnic insults. im helping a friend and asking your advice.

dolly: of the 4 states its going thru, 2 require the towed truck to be registered. we weighed that option and were planning to disconnect the shaft and drag it rears touching. tow bar puts 4 on. it would be a last resort, but he wouldnt get the trailer there.

the 1995 GMC 2500 if it's in good shape might be capable, but i would suggest a frame mounted reciever hitch vs. the bumper. check all the fluids and and change them if in doubt. check the brakes as they will get a work out. if you don't have one on the truck, get an electric brake controller. drive safely and allow yourself more distance for stopping and downshift your transmission going downhill if needed to save using up the brakes. as was mentioned, heat is the biggest killer of auto transmissions. if in doubt, change the fluid.
