The only people in the wrong are the "badges" in this situation. Unknowledgable and improperly handled. Here's why I say that, and if I'm wrong I'd love to be educated as to why. It's very possible I'm missing something here:

If it's illegal to record in court it's the duty of the officers to state such and place him under arest for not complying. Unless they have no aithority to arest. In which case they shouldn't even be there.

If it's not illegal, he was within his rights to do exactly what he did and that's all that matters, rendering the point of this post and its supportive replies as incompetent and ignorant as the "badges" in the video.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't have risked pooping my pants being tased over testing my "rights", but I absolutely cheer his willingness to do so for me.

I heavily support any and all righteous challenging of the self-imposed authority that runs this "free world".
I was going to call you an idiot, but thought better of it. He was clearly told to turn off the camera while in the courtroom. That is the rule. If he cannot obey the rule, he has to leave, period. He was escorted out of the courtroom and tried to force his way back in. He got TASED, so? There are rules in courtrooms. If you cannot comply with the rules, you get ejected from the courtroom. Some courts have dress codes. Those not in compliance have to leave. If you do not like the rules, elect a different judge. THe judge has the right to impose rules for his/her courtroom.

This DB was spouting typical Sovereign Citizen rhetoric. "I am not a person" so the rules do not apply to me? WTF over? Sovereign citizens want to enjoy all the conforts of society w/o any of the encumberances such as taxes, motor vehicle registrations, motor vehicle inspections, liability insurance requirements, etc. The Sovereign Citizens are just another rendition of the anarchists from Posse Comitadas and The Republic of Texas whack jobs from a few years back.

He was itching for just such an encounter and got it.

Well, not quite. Can you do anything you want that is not illegal?

Try walking into an Outback Steakhouse wearing nothing but a pair of skivvies, and ordering lunch. It is not illegal, you are not going to get served, you will be required to leave, and if you want to shove the person blocking your attempt to re-enter, you THEN just committed an illegal act.

Like Outback, courts have rules. Which is why the "badges" you refer to are there. Those are the bailiffs that require those rules be followed, and that court is their place of duty. If you are in a courtroom, and the judge directs you to remove your hat- do you have to? Actually- yes. LEGALLY, failure to comply with an instruction of the judge while the court is in session is called "Contempt of Court". BTW, no bail for that. Go sit.

At the start of court, here in VA, the cry of the bailiff is "Oyez, oyez, oyez, this court is now in session, Judge John Doe presiding. Silence is commanded on pain of imprisonment. All persons having business before this court, draw nigh and ye shall be heard. God save the Commonwealth, and this honorable court." Did you notice a couple of the rules stated in that cry?

The bailiffs (IMHO, rather patiently) advised him of the rules. HE stated they did not apply to him. The bailiff is not required to be an attorney, judge, or legal scholar (however, the depth of their legal knowledge has surprised some folks).

If you feel the deputy is wrong, there are legal ways to challenge it. Stating that a law does not apply to you, and forcibly resisting it is not a good first choice.

If you are going to be stupid, you gotta be tough. This one was in reality a whiny, big mouthed girly-man (apologies to some of our ladies here. You have style- he didn't)

The BIGGEST problem I see with allowing trials to be recorded is that the person on trial has a very good chance of being seen guilty by the public even if they are declared innocent. The media loves to do this. We have seen them do this several times in the last few years. Remember Casey Anthony? George Zimmerman? Regardless of whether they are guilty or not, the media tried to make them look guilty, and they are guilty in the eyes of the public. (please do NOT start a debate over either Anthony, or Zimmerman here. They are just being used as examples)

Why do you say that? You're seeing it first hand, as it happens. Not filtered through the media.

Sonic is correct. If everything is filtered through the media their bias will determine what John Q. Public perceives to be the "truth". If everything is available to everybody then the bias is more difficult to maintain without detection. I do believe that some trials would have to be kept from public view as is the case today. That would be for the Judge on the case to determine. In the Casey Anthony and George Zimmerman cases both were convicted in the media before they went to trial (yet Casey Anthony still walked free.)

How would it be different if all trial footage was available to everybody? Who can say? I can't. But the way it is is not good either.
