I seem to remember something on the news about a scam in which people show up based on an ad and strip a house, that they believe has been condemned or siezed by the bank, of its wiring and a/c coils and such for scrap.

Happens all the time around here...people steal manhole covers and catch basin grates...  Most of the scrapyards won't even take copper unless you can prove you didn't steal it...
