Oh, he went and notified the "authorities". As would I if some idiot friend posted pics of it on the freaking internet.

If you're going to contact the "authorities" in a situation like this you'd lawyer up first. Not just for CYA, but to have the best chance retaining the found items.

Yep! Methinks i would have buttoned that bench back up and "forgot" i ever tore it apart! 
But then again, i "might" have made proper applications and paid proper taxing authorities. 
I DAMN well know i wouldnt have turned 'em over to be melted down by these idiots we have running the show. Some seriously cool history there!

It was in the forum that the owner of new owner of the place contacted the "authorities" how they did it, and exactly what process they used, I don't know.
What I WOULD LIKE to do in a given situation, may not always be the LEGAL thing to do.
If I found something like that, none if you would know about it, it would disappear quick, fast, and in a hurry.
