Gun Safe shopping - best value/security for under $1k?
Im pretty freakin burned out to be honest...been looking all week everywhere from DICK's sporting goods, Sports Authority, Wally World, various manufacturer websites, etc.

I think so far Ive settled on the Sentry®Safe 14-Gun 59" Safe for about $500. Its 180lb and able to be bolted to the floor and wall. I like how it's split between shelves and long gun space. I do wish I had like $2k to throw down on a top notch safe thats pry-resistent, etc but my main focus is a nice, organized safe thats kid-proof. Link below: 2624

Here's what I picked up a couple years ago.

I would look at safes in my budget that are larger than I need, provided I had room. I would consider how the safe is going to be opened after a fire or attempted break in. Some safe companies open the safe and retrieve your valuables as part of the purchase price. I have seen Liberty($600+) safes for a little more than the sentry that are fireproof.

I have to make a move soon....just read an article about 4 recent break-ins in homes in a fairly nice neighboring town. Twice they gained access to people's basement windows while the residents were asleep!! Time to make a move....and soon

My budget will be in the $700 neighborhood. Any STRONG suggestions while I continue my search? I dont need a $3k Fort Knox, just something thats strong enough to stand up to some abuse and pry bars. I only have 2 long guns....and a few pistols

I have a sentry 14 gun safe and im very happy with it. Mine has a shelf in the top but all of the lower section is for long guns. I got mine 2 years ago at Lowe's for 350 bucks.

I screwed some hooks into the carpeted plywood on the back of my safe door to hang my dropleg holster and shootin muffs.

I think its rated at 1400 degrees for 1 hour or something like that in addition to being built heavy enough to stop anyone from prying in. When closed the door is slightly recessed and the hinges are not visible. Mine can also be bolted to the wall and floor.

Just scooped this up for $399. Its EXACTLY what I need. Maybe in 10-15 years I'll upgrade and spring for a giant Fort Knox but this will hold me over for a very long while

See if you can get a rack or cover thing for the inside of the door that will let you hang your pistols on it to save space. I have something like that on mine and really like it for keeping the defensive weapons at the ready.

Don't know where you are at but check for local safe companies. They ALL deal in used models that will save you big bucks.

Done deal, VERY happy with my purchase and will set it all up tomorrow. Check link above for details. Pics to follow although I dont have much of a collection
