My father in law put his gun safe in his living room until he could get a closet cleaned out. Well weeks turned to months and when we finally moved the safe there was a rusty moldy stain the size of the safe in the carpet.

I am in the process of moving my safe from the garage into the house, but I want to put something under it to prevent this from happening to my carpet?

I've heard another piece of carpet turned over between the carpet and the safe. A piece of linoleum or some other piece of plastic. No one I know has actually tried these though. Any thoughts?

I'd go for the linoleum or a piece of plywood.

personally id say linoleum or something else thats smooth and would slide if you wanted/needed it too.

That's an excellent point ^. With linoleum if you wanted to move the safe it would slide easier across the carpet with the linoleum under it.

i put a 4x4 the length of the safe on each side under mine and its sitting on bare concrete.

One of the things we face in the southern states is the lack of a moisture barrier between the concrete slab and padding to the carpet. Placing linoleum on the carpet may help or it may keep moisture in the carpet (resulting in mold).

It also makes it easier to slide right over to the slider and right out onto a waiting truck.

My recommendation hit a Feed and Seed store and look for a product called Stall Matting. Keeps horses' hooves from getting damaged by concrete or rocks. The stuff is about 1/2" thick of recycled rubber. You can drill right through it into floor studs, if you want, and it will withstand just about anything.

I would HIGHLY recommend setting a safe on this as opposed to just plain carpet if concrete isn't an option.

Yeah with the temp changes around here I don't want it in the garage anymore, so I wanted to move it inside. The only areas in my house that I can put the safe have carpet. I'll try a stall mat, I've got a couple hundred of those laying around that my horses have destroyed.

Right. It is better to get it elevated a bit so the carpet can "breathe" and let the moisture escape. Use 4 of the large moving sliders and leave it on them.
