" We Were Soldiers " is a good Vietnam War movie . Some Hollywood crap suspected : One NCO brings a
.45 pistol to a battle because he dislikes the new M-16 ; a scene absent from the book ...

Austrailian movies are good : " Gallipoli " ( WWII), " The Odd Angry Shot " ( Vietnam ) .

The documentary, " Men of Bronze " on WWI black soldiers is excellent and moving .

I liked the highly-fictionalized " Operation Crossbow " ( WWII ) about the V-1s and V-2s .

" The Dam Busters " is a WWII classic. I saw part of it while very young . There is documentary stuff on it on YouTube .

" The Joe McConnell Story " ( WWII and Korea ) looked good but I never saw the whole movie .

" Hope and Glory " ( British movie about the home front during the Blitz ) .

" Stalag 17 " : Dated, serious WWII classic that probably inspired comical " Hogan's Heroes " T.V. show .

Some possibilities :
" PT 109 ", starring Cliff Robertson as JFK . May be historically accurate .

" Hamburger Hill " ( I didn't enjoy it but it may be historically accurate , Vietnam ) .

" The Lost Battalion " ( WWI ) Historically accurate and enjoyable .

" The Devil's Brigade " ( WWII) may be historically accurate . Unflattering and inaccurate portrayal of Lord Louis Mountbatten though .

" The Battle of Britain " . May be historically accurate but fails to show the brilliance of Hugh Dowding, who spends his time on screen muttering the line, " We need more planes ".

For a different view of WWII, from Russian history about the German invasion into Russia. "Come and See" is pretty powerful, (English Sub-titles) It's a very mental provoking and in your head type of brutal movie (assumptions left to the imagination.) The Russians suffered under the Germans. The movie evolves around a 13 year old Russian boy..

It's historically correct/accurate to Russian history and the German occupation of what is now Belarus.

This is not a "Schindlers List" type feel good at the end story..

Try "Burnt By The Sun." You can find it on line free I believe. Great and famous drama about a hero of the Soviet Revolution in Stalinist Russia.

What's the difference between a Russian drama and a Russian comedy? In a comedy everyone dies, only quickly.
