I found it to be a great buddy flick. A wonderful Love Story. Women have Thelma and Louise for empowerment, Men have Ennis and Jack.

All great movies so far.

I would add:

Bladerunner
Total Recall
Tora Tora Tora
The Longest Day
A Bridge Too Far
The Devils Brigade
All of Quentin Tarantino's movies
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Conan the Barbarian (and Destroyer)
Run Silent, Run Deep
Hunt for Red October

How about some more good ones:

First Blood

Rocky (the first one, but the rest were watchable)

Throw Mamma from the Train

Mischief (with a young and nekkid Mrs. Travolta)

The Basketball Diaries

Blue Velvet (nothing to do with a horse)

I have not seen it, but I have heard it was not that good. There are better ones for that genre:

Victor/Victoria

The Waiting Game

Urban Cowboy had some latent repressed stuff, imho

Beaches
