Default The Great Hot Dog Debate

While standing around the BBQ this weekend, we got into a debate that took on a life of it's own. That debate was this - Is a Hot Dog a sandwich? What say you?

Not a sandwich. A sandwich is between two pieces of bread or a bun. The hinge on the hot dog bun makes it IMPOSSIBLE to be called a sandwich....puh-leeze.

Good question, though.

Not a sandwich. Definitely in a class all it's own. Same as a bratwurst, Italian Sausage, etc.

^^^ does have a point if you think about it it's more like a slider or a grinder (northerner for subs) If you ever get a sub from subway they are too hinged...

Faulty hinges can be annoying, but the bun design clearly incorporated the hinge, meaning the hot dog is NOT a sandwich.

I don't think anyone can debate this.

Some sandwiches DO use a form of hinged bun. That alone does not mean that the hot dog is a sandwich, though.

I'm going to have to go with lon on this one. The hinge does play a part in the naming of non-sandwich. After all, you can slice brats, dogs, or other sausages lengthwise and lay them out on a regular sandwich bread or roll, and then call it a sandwich (after you top it with your choice of cheese, horseradish, mustard, onions, pickles, chili, or what have you.....)

But the mighty dog/brat/sausage, in its non-sliced stage, is not a sandwich.

What about the Krispy Kreme burger? I mean, a doughnut is not a sandwich....

Well, there's ANOTHER angle. Why is this not in the poll? Amateur pollsters....cheesh.
