I don't care if John West is after only the best salmon or not, flat kicking another man, or Bear, in the junk with a "Oh look, an eagle!" distraction is NOT an approved fighting method.

Just say NO to man on Bear Junk Kicking!!

Hey Stephen Colbert has been saying it for years. The #1 threat to america is BEARS!

I'm sorry but if they are able to be suckered into the old "oh look, an eagle" trick, so be it. They deserve what they get.

I'll cop to the puffing & the vegetarian thing, and i do love sandals & tie-dye shirts, but i think i stop short of "hippie".

I propose that you should shoot it, repeatedly, then bury it & split. Screw a self-defense fine.

Should i ever happen to meet a bear, any free-ranging bear, i will consider it a threat until it is dead & buried by my hands. If that gets me fined or hassled before i can avoid it, that is an acceptable risk; being brunch for a bruin is not an acceptable risk for me.

edit* I should add that i have NO realistic expectation of any national drive to exterminate bears (no more than i have a reasonable expectation of a this country becoming financially responsible in the near future), nor do i intend to put myself in close proximity with any bears if i can reasonably avoid it. I do see the current human/bear relationship as problematic and do believe it is a deteriorating situation that does little to benefit bears or humans in the long term other than to preserve some decendants of a once wide-ranging predator species (in a increasingly "feral", not truly "wild", state) for the viewing pleasure of future generations of humans. I suppose i simply don't consider this preservation effort to be worthwhile in terms of the financial cost, the loss of life, or the loss of respect for a species that could have been as revered as the Tyrannosaurus Rex (had it not been managed into entertainment for gawking masses).

Please don't consider my responses as a true "arguement" or take offense from them, as there are limitations to how we can civilly rebutt heartfelt beliefs. I do enjoy reading what others think of my thoughts (agree or otherwise).

That's it!!!!

I will now start my campaign to smuggle weapons into the forests and arm the bears!

Next time you are in the woods Gello, they might start shooting back at ya!

Now I need to figure out what type of weapon, and in what caliber, the bears would prefer? I'm thinking M1A's and 1911's.

Bears are supposed to kill and eat people. They have been doing it since the two races first met. Like Winnie the Pooh finally said; "Christopher Robin, Christopher Shmobin. A bear has got to eat."
I someone invents a really comfortable underwater tent and people start becoming shark food on the Great Barrier Reef, are the sharks going to be blamed?
Keep your azz out of bear country unless you're hunting them and everyone goes home alive.

Well, i guess some bears can be useful.

Canadian police find bears guarding pot crop - Yahoo! News

I rather doubt that it was the dog food keeping the bears civil.

It wasn't the dog food that was keeping them there me thinks.....
