So on May 6 im taking my week of vacation and goin on a cruise with the wife. Leaving the kids with in-laws cause the wife and I need to get away for a bit. Leavin out of Jacksonville, Fla port and goin to Nassau, Bahamas then to Little Stirrup Cay, Bahamas. Ive already had several people ask why would you go with the recent Carnival incidents? I cant pass up the price, $656 for my wife and I, plus whats the chances something will happen?

Anyone else gone on one? Its the first time either of us have been out of the country.

While I like the idea of taking a vacation, I would like to provide some advice.

By laying out your itinerary, people are now aware that your residence is available on may 7th and they have a couple of days to clean you out.

My advice is never announce that you are going or gone. Only after you return.

(Read the obits in the local area and see how many announce when service is. That is the time when their houses get hit.)

I've been to Freeport Bahamas. We rode what was essentially a waterborne bus with a dining room and a casino to & from Ft Lauderdale. It was an alleged contest win by my wife. In truth the "win" was a BS way to get us there for a sales pitch for time shares. The Bahamas is rather nice, and I had a good time. However, I came away feeling that it was pretty much Florida for twice the price. YMMV.

Amen to the "itinerary" thing.

Been on 2, Canadian Maritimes outta NYC, 5 days, only mistake was partaking of the BBQ Midnight buffet on 1st night. Leave the damn midnight buffets alone, you'll eat plenty the other 23 hrs. of each day.

2nd was an Alaskan cruise outta Seattle, absolutely AWESOME(!!!!!!!!!!!!), the scenery was 20/7, the food was outstanding, especially the fresh Copper River salmon, had that 3 nights.

Tips:

1) Choose a cabin toward the stern of the boat, less yawling than nearer the bow.
2) Set-up excursions at your Ports-of-Call, but don't shoehorn them in time-wise.
3)Arrive in your port of departure a day early, if you can afford it, if any travel delays cause you to miss your boat,
there are no refunds.
4)Bring your looser fitting clothing, trust me, you'll grow into it!!
5)Don't be hesitant when ordering what you want, they will get it for you.
6)WASH your hands regularly, just in case!
7)Bring some dramamine or bonine, no one is immune to sea sickness, all of the time!!
8)Lastly, the majority of males that drown on cruises are found to have their zippers down. Why? Because they got drunk, went to pee over the railing and fell overboard! Use the head, ALWAYS!!!

Enjoy it!!!

Always wanted to do the "Inside Passage trip from Alaska to Washington and then do the train ride through the Canadian Rockies, but so far no joy.

I am going on my first cruise later this year for my honeymoon. Looking forward to it immensely.

I live in Jacksonville Florida and I wish you luck with your cruise. If you are leaving from here you must be going with Carnival so I hope they have their **** together before you go.

I am going on Holland America myself and hear good things about them. The incidents are rare in the grand scheme of things so you should be good.

Enjoy your cruise!

Have a great time, Dragunov.
I've never been on a "cruise". Fifteen years running boats, I will not pay for a boat ride.
